You will get the most fun with Endomondo if you have a mobile phone with GPS - either internally or as an external device or a Garmin GPS device. Whenever you go running, cycling, roller skating etc., bring your mobile phone and turn on the free Endomondo program. At the end of your workout, you press stop on the phone, and your track is automatically uploaded to your profile at Endomondo.com. Next time you log in, you will be able to see your latest workout including a map, distance, pace, end time and split times etc. In addition, Endomondo offers you a wide range of services for free:
- Keep a complete training log for all your distance related sports.
- Challenge your buddies on a specific track or in another category
- Find sports buddies
- Create a team for your buddies
- Keep track of what sports your friends are doing
If you use a Garmin device, you have to manually import your workout data from the device to your Endomondo profile, with a few simple steps.
A lot of other cool functions are under way as Endomondo is still in a beta version. To install the free program on your mobile, log in and click on Download. It only takes a few minutes before you are up and running!
‘Endo’ is short for endorphins, which are natural substances that are released during sports, while ‘mondo’ means world in Esperanto. In short, Endomondo is your world of endorphins.

» How much does it cost to use Endomondo?
Installation of the Endomondo Sports Tracker and the actual tracking through the GPS signal is free, but you will incur a minor cost from your mobile operator when using the tracker for online tracking because you transmit data from your mobile phone to the Internet. A typical workout lasting 30 minutes without audio feedback sends about 50 kb data, which gives a cost around 0.05 USD or 0.03 Euro if you have a normal pay-per-use subscription (1 USD per MB). Please note that the cost is significantly higher outside your home country. We recommend that you check the cost with your operator before using Endomondo - especially in foreign countries. If you receive Audio Feedback and Peptalks the data traffic will be a higher depending how much audio you receive.
» Who gets to see my data and live activities?
You can set your Privacy settings as you like on your profile, but we encourage people to share as much as possible to make the community more fun for all, this also makes it easier to find new friends on Endomondo. To customize you Privacy settings go to Settings and click on the Privacy tab. If you choose to share a workout by creating a unique link through the Share button on a workout (like when you post to Facebook, Twitter or other sites) the workout data and the map will be publicly visible to everyone you share the link with.

» I cannot log in to the website!
If you keep arriving at the frontpage when logging in, it is most likely because there is a mistake in either your e-mail or password or both. Don't forget that we differentiate between lower and upper case letters. If you keep having the problem, a good trick is to copy both e-mail address and password from the second service e-mail you received from us upon signing up. Otherwise click on Forgot Password? above the login field and type your e-mail.
» I have forgotten my password!
Click on Forgot Password? above the login field and type your e-mail.
» I tracked my workout but when I came home, the track had not been uploaded to my profile!
First start the Endomondo Tracker on your mobile phone and check Settings to see if you are logged in, you name should be shown in the user field, also make sure that you have selected a valid data connection. Second, check the History list (not available on Windows Mobile phones) to see if the track has been uploaded, otherwise upload it manually or turn on automatic upload. If it still does not upload, exit Endomondo and check you phones data settings to make sure you have access to the Internet and that the Endomondo Tracker can access the connection.
» My average speed is way too low!
If your average speed is lower than it should be, it is most likely because you have a few tracks that seem to have lasted many hours. This can be because you forgot to stop the Endomondo Tracker correctly after a workout. In most cases, you can delete a workout by going to Workouts, choosing the relevant workout and click Delete. Be careful only to delete the wrong workouts, as we cannot restore deleted workouts. After this, your average speed should go up.
» Max speed is too high on my workouts!
The speed is calculated from the track points we collect through the GPS. But since the GPS is still not 100 % accurate it can pick up track points that are a bit off. This will mean that the GPS thinks you have moved farther than you have which results in a higher speed. We try to filter out these track points to get a more accurate route and speed, but it is not always possible. So the max speed can look very high sometimes.
» I cannot see the maps properly!
Most likely the reason is that you are using an internet browser we do not support. At the moment, we are optimized for Internet Explorer 7.0 & 8.0, Firefox 3.0, Safari (Mac) and Chrome.
» I never received a confirmation mail with my activation link!
First try to check your e-mail accounts spam filter, you might find the e-mail here. Otherwise contact us at support@endomondo.com.
» When I try to import data from Garmin, it can't find my device!
We support direct import from Garmin Forerunner 205, 305, 405 and 310XT. For this to work make sure that you have the latest version of the Garmin Communicator Plugin installed in your browser. You can get it here: Garmin Communicator Plugin
» How do you calculate the calorie consumption?
For all distance based sports, we calculate the calories consumed as a function of sport, distance and weight of the athlete. In other words, the consumption is equal to a certain amount of calories per km per kg of body weight. This amount of calories is a factor depending on the type of sports activity, i.e., it is relatively low for transportation cycling compared to running.
The formula looks like this: Calorie consumption in kcal = X kcal * body weight in kg * distance in km
For instance, the factor for walking is 0.8. For a person with a weight of 75 kg taking a walk of 5 km, the formula looks like this:
Calorie consumption in kcal = 0.8 kcal * 75 kg * 5 km
Calorie consumption = 300 kcal
» What is Peptalk and how does it work?
With Peptalk, you can send a message to a friend that is out tracking right now! You type the message in plain English, and the text is then converted to speech and played on your friend's mobile phone through the headphones or speaker. Use this feature to motivate a friend while he or she is working out. You just put in a little more effort when you know someone is following your performance. The Peptalk feature is available from the Live Map (push the Peptalk button), and from the Newsfeed on your Home page when a friend is out tracking. In both cases, you can only send Peptalk to friends that are using a version of the Endomondo Sports Tracker that supports this and if the users have enabled the feature.

» Do I need a specific mobile subscription to use Endomondo?
Endomondo works with all mobile operators and phone networks. However, your mobile subscription needs to include data transmissions (at least GPRS or UMTS) to do live tracking. On most phones you can also use a Wifi connection to upload the data when it is within reach.
» Do I need a phone signal to track my activities?
No, you don't need network/phone signal for Endomondo to work. You can always upload your tracks later. However, if you want Live tracking you need to have a phone/network signal and turn the Automatic Upload/Online Tracking on.
GPS is based on at least 24 satellites placed more than 20.000 km above the surface of the Earth. The coverage depends on the lines of sight between your position and the GPS satellites and at times, high buildings and poor weather conditions can result in unstable coverage.
» How does built-in GPS affect the battery life of my phone?
The effect varies a lot from phone to phone and it depends on how many other applications you are using at the same time. For instance, it often helps significantly to turn off Bluetooth and other services if you are not using them anyway. Most phones can track for 4-6 hours before recharging, whereas the best phones can track for 10-12 hours before recharging.
Yes, on the Android, Blackberry, iPhone, Symbian and Java version of our Endomondo Sports Tracker you can get Audio feedback while you are active. A voice will tell you your lap time, duration, estimated finish. But to get the audio cues you need to be tracking online because we send the audio cues from our server.
» Can I use my phone while Endomondo is running?
Yes, you can use all other functions in your mobile phone as usual while using Endomondo.
» My phone has trouble finding the GPS signal!
Unfortunately, we cannot control the GPS signal, and we are aware that it sometimes takes a while to get a signal. Many phones have trouble getting a GPS signal indoor. If the problem persists, check your GPS settings. If you have a Nokia phone, it can help to edit the following phone settings: Go to Menu, Tools, Settings, General and scroll down and click on Positioning. Go to Positioning Server, Server Address and write supl.nokia.com if this is not the default setting. Also check that Network based and integrated GPS is enabled. On Android phones you need to make sure that Location services are enabled in the settings. On Windows Mobile phones you need to make sure you have updated the QuickGPS settings. On Blackberry go to Options, Advanced options, GPS and try to check settings, GPS Data Source = Device GPS, GPS Service = Location ON, Location Aiding = Enabled (sometimes it helps to disable Location Aiding).
» How do I setup my Zephyr heart rate monitor?
At the moment we only support heart rate on Android 2.x phones, but we are working on integrating it on our other Endomondo Sports Tracker applications as well.
Sometimes it can be tricky to pair the Zephyr heart rate belt with the Android phone. The first time you try to connect the monitor, follow these steps.
- Make sure the Zephyr HxM belt is fully charged.
- Moist the pads on the belt.
- Go into the phone settings and turn on Bluetooth (not in the Endomondo app).
- Put on the heart rate belt and make sure it is tight around your chest.
- Keep the phone close to the heart rate belt and search for Bluetooth devices.
- Now the phone should find the device - the name will probably be HXM(xxx).
- Pair you phone with the heart rate belt, if you are asked for a code type 1234.
- The status should now be "Paired but not connected".
- The above step only needs to be done once.
- Start Endomondo, the application should now find the heart rate belt. There should be a short text that says it found the belt.
- To see your heart rate you need to tap one of the four fields on the screen and select HR or HR avg.
