Free your endorphins in September! All Endomondo users are invited to participate in the official Endomondo challenge this month. You can register workouts manually, by Garmin import or by tracking with a GPS-enabled mobile phone.

We will draw lots among all participants to find the winner of a new Nokia N97 mini smartphone. The more calories you have burned by 30 September at Midnight CET, the better your odds as you will get one ticket in the drawing per 100 calories burned.

To ensure fair play, we will check the workouts of the winner. If we find any false workouts, we will draw lots again to determine the winner.

The winner will be announced below and on www.facebook.com/endomondo in early October.

Questions are welcome at support@endomondo.com.

thanks elaine and michael - suspect the splints are more from having to do a lot of running on hard ground in rugby boots during training and matches rather than my actual runs, but they are definitely starting to hurt when i run in trainers now

will pop in to see my physio on thursday and see what he suggests (it had better not be rest)

@James I used to get problems with my legs when running, what felt like shin splints. Best bet would be to go to a proper running shop and have them watch the way you run and give you shoes to suit. May be able to sort you before trying physio

@James. Absolutely!!! I get them too and can no longer run. Instead I cycle - road or mountain. the impact is tiny compared to running. swimming also good. Anything that doesn't involve your feet coming into contact with a hard surface while carrying your body weight! Check out a good podiatrist or sports physio. They may be able to sell you proper shoe inserts which may help (not the stuff you buy in a chemist). Sadly didn't work for me but does for some.

Starting to get shin splits.....does anyone know if it's OK to cycle as an alternative to running?

drea, I enter my workouts manually and it gives a calories burned number, so you shouldn't need any special device. try manually entering a random workout and see if it gives you anything for calories burned
